I really wanted to shine light on this and hopefully help the game's success in the Korean market. However, given the success of other games based on the Romance of the Three Kingdoms in Korea, TW: Three Kingdoms really has a potential to enter the main stream game market in Korea.

Total war series is a very niche-specific game series with relatively a small number of players in Korea. However, from a gamer's perspective, CA may have lost a substantial number of gamers who were on edge about whether to get the game or not just due to the way the beta promotion was handled.Īs a Korean American Total War series fan who has been following the Korean Twitch scene for a while, I thought this was a little concerning for the success of the game in the Korean/East Asian market. I'm guessing that Creative Assembly probably was not aware of this mayhem since the distribution of the game in Korea is handled by the publisher's Korean office, SEGA Korea (Is this right, u/DogbertCA ?). He does have a large following but most of his followers are mostly light gamers with no strong preference to a specific genre.īecause of this limitation, many Korean fans of both the Total War series and the Romance of Three Kingdoms lore (aka strategy game fans and potential buyers) still have not been exposed to the game via stream yet and are frustrated that major streamers with similar tastes for games - who already preordered the game last year and have been waiting for the release anxiously - such as Zilioner (침착맨 486k youtube subscribers and 321k Twitch followers) and Dogswellfish (개복어 170k Youtube subscribers and 165k Twitch followers) were not even aware of the promotional beta codes' existence until just yesterday/today when some of their viewers let them know. He played the beta overnight and probably was one of the few who were actually doing the promotion a justice. He is known for introducing and playing a large variety of games and thus a great person to promote a new game to the general population.

Probably the biggest streamer who did get the code and played it on stream was hanryang1125 (풍월량), who has 389k youtube subscribers and 380k twitch followers with ~10k viewers during live streams.
Apparently, the code was distributed to a small number of streamers with ties to SEGA Korea and a Korean MCN called Sandbox with very little insight on who would actually stream it or what the potential viewer population would be.Īpparently many of the streamers who got the code have been busy playing other games like League of Legends or Starcraft (for example, cocopopp671), still not having played the Total War: Three Kingdoms beta at all after receiving the code.
